Ernest 'Ernie' Bascon Buchanan, Sr.

SALISBURY - Ernest "Ernie" Bascon Buchanan Sr., 78, of Salisbury, passed away at home Thursday, May 29, 2014 after a time of declining health.

He was born Jan. 24, 1936 in Rowan County, the son of the late Bertie Mandy and Reese B. Buchanan.

A China Grove High School, Ernie was a veteran of the United States Air Force in the Korean War, where he was a flight crew chief and mechanic. He retired from Gamewell Manufacturing and owned the Klumac Inn for a number of years. He was a member of the Hart Post American Legion. A friend to everyone he met, Ernie was a diehard fan of NASCAR, boxing, and MMA.

In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his sister Margie Watson and his lifetime companion, Glenda "Little Bit" Buchanan Dean.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Ernest Buchanan, Jr. (Teresa) of Salisbury and Brad Buchanan (Heather) of Salisbury; daughter, Sandy Scott (Randy) of Yadkinville; stepchildren, Kenny Kirkman and Lana Brady of Salisbury; brothers, Clarence "Buck" Buchanan of Salisbury and Troy Buchanan of Thomasville; grandchildren, Nick Buchanan (Jessica Blackwelder), Ryan Buchanan, Joshua Buchanan and Miranda Scott; and great-grandchildren, Noah, Isiah, and Buchanan.

Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144 with Rev. Joe Thomas officiating. Military rites by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.
