Esmond J. 'E.J.' Harrison, Jr.

SALISBURY - Mr. Esmond J. "E.J." Harrison, Jr., 68, of Salisbury, passed away Dec. 24, 2012 at the Laurels Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 30, 1944 in Greer, S.C. he was the son of Bertha Watson Harrison and the late Esmond J. Harrison, Sr.

Mr. Harrison was a graduate of Greer Senior High School and attended various trade classes at Rowan Cabarrus Community College. He was enlisted in the US Air Force from 1966-1969. Mr. Harrison worked for Gamewell Mechanical for a short time and Rowan Regional Medical Center in Plant Engineering as a mechanic for the last 29 years. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of China Grove where he was in the church choir and played guitar in the praise band. He was a member of Samuel C. Hart Post 14 American Legion and VFW Post 3006.

Mr. Harrison was an avid golfer and played competitive softball for a number of years with various teams. In 2000 he won 5 National Titles with Thomas Engineering including, NSA Senior World Series, ISSA World Championship, ASA National Championship, SPA Senior National Championship, and ISA National Championship. In 2010, Mr. Harrison was inducted in to the National Senior Softball Hall Of Fame after numerous achievements.

Preceding him in death is his brother, Danny Harrison; along with his father.

Those left to cherish his memory, along with his mother are his wife, Sharon Smith Harrison whom he married Jan. 15, 1965; son, Mickey J. Harrison of Salisbury; daughter, Beverly H. Morgan and husband Brad and their son, Dylan of Salisbury.

Visitation: Will be held Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: Funeral service will be Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of China Grove with Rev. George Yates officiating. Burial will follow at the US National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd. location with Military Honors.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of China Grove, Music Dept. and/or Building Fund, 110 W. Church St., China Grove, NC 28023.
