Eva Vanhoy McIntyre

ROCKWELL - Eva Jane Vanhoy McIntyre, 90, of Rockwell, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Eva Jane was born May 10, 1922, in Stanly County, a daughter of the late Burton M. Vanhoy Sr. and Tinie Hatley Vanhoy.

Eva Jane was a 1939 graduate of Richfield High School, had worked for Colonial Frozen Foods in Kannapolis and was a homemaker. She was a member of Rockwell United Methodist Church, a member of the Vanhoy-Sells VFW Auxiliary and active with the Grace Lowerstone meal site as long as health allowed.

Eva Jane was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Eva Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Alexander McIntyre; son Rodney Lynn McIntyre; seven brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her son, Stephen D. McIntyre and wife Julia of Rockwell; brother Burton M. Vanhoy Jr. "June," of Rockwell; sister Opal Doby and husband Charles of Rockwell; grandsons Danny, Tommy, Dwayne, Robin and Starsky McIntyre; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.

Visitation: The family will be at Powles Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Services: Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29 at Rockwell United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Warren W. Miller, pastor. Eva Jane will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Rowan Regional Medical Center, the staff of Autumn Care, Rowan County Hospice, Hospice volunteer Joyce Caddell and special caregiver Janet Grubb.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Powles Funeral Home, P.O. Box 248, Rockwell, NC 28138 to help with final expenses.
