Floyd Daugherty Sr.

LANDIS - Mr. Floyd Freeze Daugherty Sr., 91, of Landis, passed away Friday March 21, 2014, at Tucker Hospice House.

Born Oct. 28, 1922, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Ross and Cellie Freeze Daugherty. A graduate of Landis High School, he was an active lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mr. Daugherty served his country during World War II in the U.S. Air Force. He was a tail gunner onboard a B17, serving 30 missions in Europe.

Earlier in life, Mr. Daugherty worked for Wagner Chevrolet, Beasley Cross Chevrolet and LB Thomas Furniture Co. before retiring from Grove Supply Co.

He particularly enjoyed playing golf at Corbin Hills and the Warrior, where he scored 5 holes in one.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his infant daughter; and brothers Walter "Mope," David and Raymond Daugherty.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Margaret Beck Daugherty; daughter Betty D. Walters (Grant) of China Grove; son Floyd F. Daugherty Jr. (Denise) of Salisbury; and sister Lillian Barnes of Landis.

Also surviving him are his grandchildren, Brian (Kayce), Keith (Amy), David (Jessica) Walters, Chad Barrow, Angel (Will) Craft and Megan (Joel) Lentz. His great-grandchildren are Shelby, Karlie, Kurtis, Kyle, Tanner, Jace, Cameron and Blaine.

Arrangements: Visitation is Monday from 1-3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with funeral service at 3 p.m. also at Trinity Lutheran Church, with burial at West Lawn Memorial Park, with military rites performed by the Rowan County Honor Guard.
