Franklin L. 'Frank' Sifford Sr.

SALISBURY - Mr. Franklin "Frank" Laverne Sifford Sr., 75, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 25, 1938, in Rowan County, a son of the late Eli Jacob and Nora Pauline Fraley Sifford.

Frank was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School, worked for Cannon Mills and had retired from the City of Salisbury where he had worked at the waste water treatment plant, was in charge of waterlines, wells and lift stations in the Rockwell area.

He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. Frank was a member of Rowan Christian Assembly, a former deacon and helped with church fundraisers. He was a former Scoutmaster of Troop 351 in Faith, helped with the Faith 4th of July celebration making slaw and chopping B-B-Q. He enjoyed making walking canes, being outdoors and helping his friends and neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle "Mert" Sifford, who passed away on Dec. 25, 2010; brothers Marcus Sifford, Douglas Sifford; and sisters Phyllis Erwin and Wanda Ennis.

Survivors include his son, Franklin L. "Linn" Sifford Jr. of Salisbury; brother Jimmy Sifford and wife Susie of Salisbury; sisters Rebecca Belk and husband George, Janet Young, Jean Taylor, Helen Misenheimer, Jacqueline Allen and husband Fletcher, Sylvia Hardin and husband Don, Gwenette Morgan and husband Gary, Karen Wilhelm and husband Paul and Pamela Burris and husband Donnie; sisters-in-law Marie Sifford and Rachel Sifford; and special friend Lena Sellers Crook.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12 at Powles Funeral Home.

Services: Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Brookhill Memorial Gardens by Rev. David L. Norris, pastor of Rowan Christian Assembly.

Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard and U.S. Air Force.
