SALISBURY - Mr. Gearnie Franklin Schenk, 85, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, Oct 11, 2012 at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born March 17, 1927 in Rowan County to the late James Edward Schenk and Blanche Graham Schenk, Mr. Schenk was educated in the Rowan County schools.

A veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Schenk worked for the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury in maintenance for 30 years. Mr. Schenk was a member of Mt. Hope Church.

Preceding him in death were his siblings, James Harold Schenk, Viola Basinger, Gertie Smith, Worthy Leazer, Lorene Leazer, Mary Allen, Jerry Schenk and Richard "Dick" Schenk.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Leazer Schenk whom he married Dec. 9, 1944; daughters, Jean Funderburk and husband Ray of Salisbury, Barbara Pierce of Salisbury, Priscilla McGuire of Salisbury, Janice Robbins and husband Donnie of Rockwell, Robin Black and husband Sam of Gold Hill, and Teresa Sechrest and husband Mark of Salisbury; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: 2p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 at Mt. Hope Church, conducted by Rev. Dr. Johnny Boggs. Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens.
