Genevieve P. Slaughter

KANNAPOLIS - Genevieve Parks Slaughter, age 85, passed away peacefully Jan. 3, 2013, with her children by her side.

Mrs. Slaughter was born on July 24, 1927, in Charlotte. The daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. J. Hugh Parks, she graduated from J.W. Cannon High School and from Duke University. She was married to Dr. Freeman C. Slaughter in 1948, after which they moved to Atlanta, Ga., where she did some modeling for Alice Bell.

In 1951, they moved back to Kannapolis where they were active in First Baptist Church and numerous organizations. Mrs. Slaughter gave hundreds of hours to the Kannapolis City School System as a substitute teacher. She obtained a N.C. Real Estate Broker License, and she also worked as a secretary as needed in her husband's dental practice.

Her husband of 64 years says that his wife was a partner in everything he ever accomplished in his life. Throughout her life, family was her most important love and concern.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Freeman C. Slaughter; daughter Anne Chern (Cyril) of California; and sons Dr. Thomas F. Slaughter (Janie) of Winston-Salem and Mr. James H. Slaughter (Tamara) of Greensboro; and grandchildren Freeman J. Slaughter, McKinley Slaughter and Wyatt Slaughter, all of Greensboro.

Private funeral services will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, Saturday, Jan. 5 officiated by Rev. Mike Hubbard. Burial followed at Carolina Memorial Park.
