SPENCER - Hollis Leo Hinkle Jr., 89, of Spencer, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012 at his residence.

He was born June 10, 1923 in Rowan County, son of the late Hollis Leo Hinkle Sr. and Emma Leonard Hinkle.

Hollis graduated from Spencer High School and Catawba College. He retired as Chief Probation Officer after 25 years of service. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army WWII.

He was a member of the Spencer Masonic Lodge 543, Shriners, Scottish Rites, Harold B. Jarrett and Eastern Starr.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Paul Hinkle; sisters, Alma Whirlow and Elizabeth Lamb.

Those left to cherish his memories are wife, Frances Cook Hinkle whom he married Dec. 25, 1963; brother, James Ray (Millie) Hinkle of Pittsboro; nephews, Dr. David (Lea) Lamb of Lexington and Ted (Phyllis) Whirlow of Salisbury; nieces, Sarah Reidel of Atlanta, Jean Trexler of Rockwell and Becky Ann Hinkle of Salisbury.

Visitation and Services: Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at Oakdale Baptist Church, 200 Charles St, Spencer, NC 28159.

Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at Oak Dale Cemetery, the Pastor Gross officiating. Burial to follow in Church Cemetery.
