James Applegate

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - James Warren Applegate, 89, of Swarthmore, died on July 12, 2013.

Born in Tipton, Ind., he was son of the late George Washington and Leila Pearl Cherry Applegate and father of the late Barbara Kay Applegate.

Mr. Applegate lived in Nogales, Mexico, for two years and Salisbury, N.C., before moving to his late residence seven months ago.

He was a safety engineer for Transit Casualty Company and loved to fish and read. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korea.

Mr. Applegate was a lifemember of VFW Post 3006 and a member of Samuel Hart American Legion Post 14, Salisbury, N.C. He was also a member of Arcadia Lodge 1138, F&AM, Lansing, Ill.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Bette A. Hayward Applegate; grandson Anthony Spotti (Alejandra); and brother Charles Applegate.

Service: Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Tribute at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27 at Samuel Hart American Legion Post 14, 5865 S. Main St., Salisbury, NC.

Burial: Private.
