John Lee Hurd

SALISBURY - John Lee Hurd, 71, of Salisbury, died Dec. 7, 2012, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem.

He was born Oct. 1, 1941, in Russell County, Va., the son of the late Ira E. Hurd and Mae L. Honaker Hurd.

Mr. Hurd worked as a finish carpenter before retiring due to disability. A member of Sloan Lake Community Church in China Grove, John served our country in the Marine Corps.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Glenda Edward.

Those left to cherish his memories are wife Linda Jones Hurd of Salisbury; brothers Russell (Linda) Hurd, Jake (Nadine) Hurd and Robert Hurd, all of Virginia; sister Margaret Campbell of Virginia; adopted son Auther Wilder and son Bobby Hurd of Mississippi; daughter Tammy H. McCain of Mississippi; mother-in-law Robena Jones of Salisbury; brother-in-law Clarence "Pete" (Sarah) Jones of Salisbury; and sisters-in-law Elaine (George) Hardy of Greensboro and Vanessa Taplah of Linwood.

Memorial Service: 12 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Sloan Lake Community Church, 10255 Old Concord Road, China Grove.

Burial: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144 with the Pastor Zackary Sizemore officiating. Full military honors performed by Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.

Memorials: Proceeds may be sent to Linda Jones Hurd c/o Robena Jones, 503 Correll St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
