CONCORD - Mr. John Thomas Belk, 89, of Concord passed away Monday Dec. 31, 2012 at Tucker Hospice House.

Mr. Belk was born June 10, 1923 in Union County to the late Sam and Winnie Starnes Belk. Mr. Belk was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, a veteran of the United States Navy. He served in World War II aboard the U.S.S. New Jersey. He loved gardening, fishing and piddling. Mr. Belk retired from Cannon Mills.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Naomi Ruth Barrier Belk.

Mr. Belk is survived by his three daughters, Vickey Young and husband Donnie of Salisbury, Linda Whitley andhusband Bob of Concord, and Hope Adcock and husband Gene of Kannapolis; son, Noel Belk and wife Joy of Kannapolis; one sister, Ophelia Smith of Dublin, Va.; one brother, Otis Belk of Henrico, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Service and Visitation: The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Wilkinson Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Friday, Jan. 4 at 3 p.m. at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at the home of his daughter Linda Whitley the remainder of time.
