Katie Greene Swaringen

SALISBURY - Katie Lea Greene Swaringen, 82, of Salisbury, passed away Feb. 26, 2013, at Liberty Commons Nursing Home. She had been in declining health for 9-1/2 years.

Born Jan. 29, 1931, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Dora Mae Greene. She was educated in Rowan County. Katie was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother James Greene; sisters Rachel Tilley, Mary Edna Phifer, Katherine Smith and Vivian Barnette.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Marshall Swaringen, who she married Dec. 18, 1955; daughter Teresa Jacobs (Ronald) of Salisbury; sons Marshall Swaringen Jr. (Janie) of Advance, Rickey Swaringen (Tara) of Richfield; grandchildren Jerod Jacobs, Nena Jacobs, Bradley Swaringen, all of Salisbury, Heather Howell of Advance, William Swaringen of Clemmons, Andrew Swaringen of Winston-Salem; great-grandchildren Tiffin Jacobs, Madalyn Swaringen, Kalya Swaringen and Julienne Swaringen, all of Salisbury, and Jack Austin of Advance.

Visitation and Services: Visitation is Tuesday, March 5, 1-2 p.m. at the Rowan Memorial Park Chapel in the Pines Mausoleum. Service at 2 p.m. in the Chapel with Tom Lomax officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum.
