Lawrence Jehu Gaither

GREENSBORO - Mr. Lawrence Jehu Gaither, 83, of Yanceyville Street, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Moses Cone Hospital.

Larry was born in 1929 in High Point, and was a native of Rowan County. He graduated from Elon College in 1952, where he was the Senior Class President and where he played varsity basketball for four years. After graduating with a degree in Physical Education, he married Reita Durham. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954.

After returning home, be became employed at Burlington Industries, where he worked in the headquarters office on Friendly Avenue in Greensboro. He retired from Burlington Industries in 1984 after 30 years of service.

He was a member of Proximity United Methodist Church. He was an avid sports fan, whether participating or spectating. He always had a love for shooting pool, which he did until his final year.

Surviving are mother Fannie Gaither of Granite Quarry; former wife Reita Gaither of Greensboro; daughters Pamela Gaither and Vicki Hall both of Greensboro; son David Gaither and wife Heather and their children, Nicolas, Meredith and Bryce Gaither, all of Greensboro; sisters Lillian Bruce of Greensboro and Diane Basinger of Salisbury; brother Wallace Gaither of Granite Quarry.

Service: A military graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, March 21 at Salisbury National Cemetery.

Visitation: After the service, the family will meet friends at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 234 S. Main Granite Quarry St., Granite Quarry, NC.

The family is being served by Forbis & Dick North Elm Street Chapel.
