Lewis Conard Kester, Sr.

SALISBURY - Lewis Conard Kester, Sr., 93, passed away on Jan. 20, 2013 after a short illness.

Mr. Kester was born in Salisbury, on Nov. 7, 1919. He joined the United States Army on Nov. 14, 1941 and served until Dec. 29, 1945. While in the army, he met his wife who was also serving in the Army. Both were stationed at Newport News, Va. He was among the initial employees hired to open the Salisbury Veterans Administration Hospital in Salisbury in 1953. He also drove a city bus in Salisbury.

Mr. Kester was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed.

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 68 years, Carrie Hebert Kester and his two sisters, Theresa Eagle and Gracie Swicegood.

He is survived by his daughter, Norleen Kester Pomerantz of Radford, Va.; his son, Lewis Conard Kester, Jr. from Richardson, Tex.; two granddaughters, Tamara Pomerantz of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Kirsten Pomerantz Wallace of Tampa, Fla. and two great grandchildren, Luke and Avery Wallace also of Tampa, Fla.

Service & Visitation: 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24th at Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury. Funeral service will follow immediately after at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Rowan Memorial Park.
