Mark Allen Hunter

SALISBURY - Sergeant Mark Allen Hunter, 51, of Bertie Avenue, departed this earthly life on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

He was born in Cabarrus County on Aug. 5, 1961, to the late Robert Lee Hunter and the late Sarah Dunlap Douglas.

Sgt. Hunter was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School and Colorado Technical College. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Kannapolis and a member of the Peace Officers Club, J.C. Price American Legion Post 107 and Masonic Lodge. He was also a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Sgt. Hunter served more than 14 years in the U.S. Army. He also had served the City of Salisbury for 20 years as a patrol officer and drug investigator and was presently a police sergeant.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joyce Reese Hunter of the home; three sons, Mark Reese (Tosha), Omar Lipscomb, both of Salisbury, Robert Hunter of Fort Hood, Texas; two daughters, Latasha Reese, Dominique Hunter Lister (Greg), both of Salisbury; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; three sisters, Teresa R. DeBoyace (Jimmy) of Salisbury, Tammy Johnson (Robert) of Kannapolis, Robin Phillips of Buffalo, N.Y.; one brother, Scott Douglas (Audrey) of Concord; mother-in-law Sarah Reese of Goose Creek, S.C.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Service and Visitation: Funeral Services will be conducted at Omwake-Dearborn Chapel at Catawba College on Friday, April 26 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 25 at Clark Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. and at other times at the home.
