DENVER - Ray Alfred Pope, 83, of Denver, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at his residence.

Ray was born Oct, 7, 1929 in Saginaw, Mich. to the late Mary Shannon Pope and Alfred Luther Pope.

He was a 1947 graduate of Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Mich. and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox organization and retired from Weyerhaeuser Co. Mr. Pope was elected to the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

Preceding him in death was his wife Lorraine Florence "Sandy" Pope on Feb. 21, 1998; two brothers; and one sister.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, John Pope of Greensboro, Tom Pope of Denver, and Christopher Pope of Raleigh; daughter Linda Barbour (Mark) of Peachtree City, Ga.; brother, Richard Pope (Janice) of Bridgeport, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Florence Pope of Apache Junction, Ariz. and Monique Pope of Broomfield, Colo.; and grandchildren, Clint Barbour, Lauren Pope, Shannon Barbour and Ray Pope.

Memorial Service: 11 a.m, Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Don Phillips with entombment in the church columbarium.
