Richard L. Baity

SALISBURY - Richard L. Baity, 75, passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, following a period of declining health.

Born Oct. 21, 1935 in Rowan County, he was a son of the late John Henry and Minnie Sloop Baity. He served his country with the U.S. Army in Germany, during the Berlin Crisis. Mr. Baity retired from Piedmont Correctional Institute after more than 17 years of devoted service. An active and faithful member of Central Baptist Church, he loved his Lord, family, friends and animals, especially dogs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Family members left with cherished memories include his wife of more than 49 years, Dona Cross Baity whom he married Aug. 13, 1961; his sister, Catherine Baity Eagle of Salisbury; a number of nieces and nephews; and special, close friends, Jim and Pat Childers and James F. Sidden, Sr.

Service & Visitation: The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2011 with the service following at 7 p.m., all at Central Baptist Church, 1810 Moose Rd., Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Curtis Parker, Pastor and Pastor Barry Kemp, of Liberty Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Brookhill Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. Tuesday Aug. 9, 2011.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made in Mr. Baity's name to Faithful Friends, POB 3097, Salisbury, NC 28145.

The family would like to thank Mr. Baity's caretakers, Chris Littleton, Jean Roach, Martie Ellis, Angela Deese, Tonya Renea Starnes and Rina Lewis, for the care, concern and love they gave to and provided for Mr. Baity.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove is serving the family of Mr. Baity.
