Robert Charles 'Bob' Harrison`
GRANITE QUARRY - Robert Charles "Bob" Harrison, of Granite Quarry, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2014 under the loving care of the VA Liberty Lane Hospice Center in Salisbury.
Born Jan. 1, 1918 in Rowan County, he was the son of Robert Samuel Harrison and Annie Neely Nail Harrison. Robert was a graduate of Boyden High School.
A World War II
United States Army
veteran, he served in Italy with the 350th Infantry Division from 1945-1946.
He owned and operated Harrison's Food Market on East Innes Street and later relocated his grocery store to Fulton Street. He worked at Shaw Motor Freight, McKinney Trucking and Rowan Freight until his retirement. Robert loved birds, going to the beach and vacationing with his family.
Robert C. Harrison was a good and faithful servant of the Lord. He was a kind, loving and compassionate husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He exemplified Jesus' command to "love one another." He was a past member of Haven Lutheran Church, Wittenberg Lutheran Church and present member of Gold Hill Wesleyan Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rachel Vermell Kimball Harrison; sisters, Nell Louise Gallimore, Laura Helen Copley, Barbara Ellen Harrison, and Mary Nail Benson, and little Margaret Harrison.
He is survived by his two sons, Gwynn Harrison (Patsy) and Mark Harrison (Connie); his grandchildren, Angela Honeycutt (Johnny), Brandon Harrison (Connie), Laura Powell (Raymond), Maranda Harrison (Andy) and Levi Harrison (Emily); great-grandchildren, Julie Pegram (Seth), Stacy Pendarvis (Rich), Weston Powell and Austin Harrison; and great-great-grandchildren, Madison, Chloe and Luke Grady.
Visitation: 2-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Gold Hill Wesleyan Church, 830 Liberty Rd., Gold Hill, NC 28071.
Service: 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Gold Hill Wesleyan Church with Pastor Harold Bumby and Pastor Mark Loman officiating. Burial will follow at Wittenberg Church Cemetery. Military honors by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.
A special note of thanks to Bayada CNA Cathy Rhyne for her faithful and loving service to our family and Dad. Also, thank you for the love and support that every member of the VA Medical Center and Liberty Lane Hospice provided to our dear, sweet Dad.
