CONCORD - Mrs. Sybil Regina Burleyson Barnes, age79 passed away Monday March 17, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast.

Mrs. Barnes was born Nov. 10, 1934, in Cabarrus County, daughter of the late Clarence G. Burleyson Jr. and Willie Mae Sherrill Burleyson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William R. Barnes and brother Max Burleyson.

Sybil graduated from Concord High School where she was a star basketball player. She was a retired bookkeeper with Public Service Gas Company; and was also a bus driver for the special needs children for Cabarrus County School System.

Sybil was a very active, social and direct lady. She enjoyed going places and doing things with her many friends and family. She had her opinions and would let you know exactly how she felt. But at the same time, she was very loving and loyal to her family and church, New Hope Worship Center, where she was a longtime, active member.

Survivors include her daughter, Regina Curlee Childers and husband Paul of Salisbury; son Michael Curlee and wife Pam of Concord; grandchildren Miles Curlee, Jennifer Morton and Shannon Helms; great-grandchildren Kendall, Kaley, Kori, Kessa, Dayton and Hailey; nephew Tony Burleyson; niece Roxanne Cortes; and two special aunts, Joyce Egbert of Seattle, Wash., and Ruth Plott of Newport News, Va.

Arrangements: The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at New Hope Worship Center. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dale Jenkins, Dr. Tom Snipes and Dr. Zachery Sizemore officiating.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Worship Center, 452 Brookwood Ave., NE, Concord, NC 28025; or , 505 East Blvd., Suite 101, Charlotte, NC 28203.
