SALISBURY - Mr. Tommy Robert Douglas, 81, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Liberty Commons Nursing Home.

Born Aug. 28, 1931, in Rowan County, Mr. Douglas was the son of the late Martha Anna Combs Douglas and Charles P. Douglas of Barber.

Mr. Douglas graduated from Cleveland High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service, Mr. Douglas worked as rate auditor with McClean Trucking Company in Winston-Salem; as terminal manager with Thurston Motor Lines in Salisbury; and with Thomas and Howard and Brendles of Salisbury before retiring.

He was Past Master of the Scotch Irish Masonic Lodge in Cleveland and a member of the Oasis Shrine of Charlotte. He was a member of South River United Methodist Church.

Mr. Douglas enjoyed playing steel guitar at Shoaf's Barn Dance and with other local musicians for many years.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Margaret Lyerly Douglas, who he married Nov. 22, 1951; son Thomas David Douglas (Cheryl) of Cleveland; daughters Susan Douglas Agner (Terry) of Cleveland, Sandra Douglas Guy (Bob) of Lenoir; grandchildren Amanda Douglas Simon (Chris) of Woodleaf, Jason Robert Douglas of Bremerton, Wash., Christopher Michael Agner (Brandi) of Salisbury, Matthew Alexander Agner of Faith, Joshua David Agner of Salisbury, Meredith Kayleigh Guy of Lenior, Mallory Bronwyn Guy of Lenoir; and great-grandchildren Taylor Grace Simon, Jenna Leigh Simon, and Banks Michael Agner.

Visitation and Service: Visitation will be held Thursday, May 2 from 10 a.m-11 a.m. at Summersett Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in Summersett Memorial Chapel with Mr. Tim Kelty officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be conducted at South River United Methodist Church cemetery.
