Watson B. Murphy

SALISBURY - Watson Bouknight Murphy, 82, of Salisbury, died at his residence Monday, March 10, 2014.

Born on March 13, 1931, in Columbia, S.C., he was the son of the late Watson Bobo Murphy and Florence Bouknight Murphy. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and served 10 years in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War and achieving the rank of lieutenant.

He went on to a 26-year career in sales, first with IBM and then in the North Carolina textile industry.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and loved playing bridge with his men's bridge club.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet Powell Murphy; daughters Margaret Murphy Pearson, Kings Mountain, Kay Murphy Paul Madden, Salisbury, Laurie Murphy Mignone and husband Marco of Stokesdale; brothers Charles Bird Murphy and wife Nancy of Abbeville, S.C., James Furman Murphy and wife Irene of Greenwood, S.C.; grandchildren Lt. Charles William Paul, U.S. Air Force, Katherine Vogler Paul, Salisbury, Isaac Watson Pearson and John "Jack" Roy Pearson, both of Kings Mountain. Also surviving him is his beloved dog Buddy.

Arrangements: A memorial service will be held Monday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Drs. Jim Dunkin and Randal Kirby officiating. After a private family committal service at the church immediately following, the family will see friends in Lewis Hall of First Presbyterian Church.
