Wesley E. Barnes Sr.
SALISBURY - Mr. Wesley Evans Barnes Sr., of Trinity Oaks, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.
Wesley was born April 1, 1926, in Greensboro to the late Harley Orville Barnes and Mattie Welker Barnes.
He was also preceded in death by brothers H.O. Barnes Jr., Alton Barnes and Bill Barnes.
Wesley graduated from N.C. State University with a degree in Textile Management and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II
He retired from Burlington Mills in Cramerton and Howe Distributors in Gastonia. His religious beliefs ran deep. He had at different times been a member of First Baptist Church in Cramerton, New Hope Baptist Church in Gastonia and McGill Baptist Church in Concord. Wesley was a strong family man, enjoying woodworking and golf.
Wesley is survived by his wife, Frances Smith Barnes; sons Ronald Barnes (Tanya) of Rockwell and Wesley Barnes Jr. (Diana) of Suffolk, Va.; grandchildren William Barnes (Cheryl) of Mount Pleasant and Rachel B. Smith (Brad) of Huntersville; great-granddaughter Madison Barnes; brothers Ralph Barnes (Sandra), Greensboro, and Bob Barnes of Marietta, Ga.; sisters Margaret Budd of Burlington and Virginia Bennett of Colfax; brothers-in-law George Smith (Carol) of Gastonia and Steve Smith (Pat) of Lake Wylie, S.C.
Service and Visitation: A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McGill Baptist Church in Concord officiated by Dr. Steven Ayers. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will at 4 p.m. at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia with military honors by Gaston County Honor Guard.
Second Service: An additional memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury.
