Jimmy Ray Horton, Sr.
CLEVELAND - Jimmy Ray Horton, Sr., 82, of Cleveland, died on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Brian Center Rehab 2 Home, Mooresville.
Born May 14, 1930, in Mt. Ulla, he was a son of the late Jesse Lee Horton, Sr. and Augusta Cline Horton. Mr. Horton was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Ulla High School. He was a lifelong member of Amity Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and served on the church council.
Mr. Horton was a United States Army veteran having served in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was co-owner of Horton Brothers Builders Supermarket, Mooresville, and a farmer, raising Black Angus Cattle. Mr. Horton served on the Board of Directors for 45 years at Energy United and served as president for many of those years. He served as a Director of Federated Rural Electric Insurance Exchange. Mr. Horton was past member of the Mooresville Rotary Club also having served as president and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as a Director of the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce and the Mooresville Merchants Association.
Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorcas Horton Sechrest and Betty Horton Brown; and brother, Joe Carmen Horton.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Lineberger Horton, whom he married May 2, 1953; children, Jimmy Ray Horton, Jr., of Laurel Springs, Lee Ann Horton and Jon Allison Horton and wife Jenny, all of Mt. Ulla; grandchildren, Winston Ray of Mt. Sterling, Ill., Sydney Christine Horton, of Charlotte Jon Brantley Horton, of Annapolis, Md., Mary Allison Horton and Susannah Hope Horton, both of Mt. Ulla; brother, Jesse Lee Horton, Jr. of Mt. Ulla; sister, Naomi Horton Holshouser of Rockwell; and many special nieces and nephews.
Service and Visitation: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Amity Lutheran Church, Mt. Ulla, with Rev. Gene W. Bruce and Rev. Dr. Larry Bost officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.
