Bernice Allman Benfield

SALISBURY - Bernice Allman Benfield, 91, of Salisbury, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 9, 2012, at Genesis Eldercare of Salisbury.

Born April 17, 1921, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Alice Moore Allman and Samuel Burton Allman.

Educated in Rowan County schools, she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, who loved her children and grandchildren dearly. Until retiring, she was employed by Leisure Lads Manufacturing. A meticulous seamstress, she enjoyed making all types of clothing for her family.

Bernice was a member of Landis Baptist Church, where she was in the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and remained faithful until her declining health.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Alfred Reid Benfield, who died July 8, 1995; brothers Tommy Allman, James Allman; sisters Pauline Fisher, Jeanette Coffee Lee; and daughter-in-law Sandra Chapman Benfield.

Those left to cherish her memories include her sons, Reid Benfield (Mary), Burton "Burt" Benfield (Carolyn), Mike Benfield (Sandra); daughter Vickie B. Abernethy (Rick), all of Salisbury; sisters Nell Robinson (Curtis) of Portsmouth, Va., Brownie Brown ("Bub") of China Grove, Naomi Freeze of Mebane, Jerrie Sides of Timberlake, Darlene Cosner (Fred) of Portsmouth, Va.; brother Samuel "Sam" Allman (Brenda) of Rockwell; grandchildren Traci Graham (Eddie), Jill Hubbard (Joe), Allison Kaylor (Rob), Melissa Adams, Mark Benfield (Sarah), Jonathan Abernethy, Paul Abernethy, Matthew Benfield (Cassidy); great-grandchildren Amber Adams, Cal, Ty and Brooks Hubbard, Kade, Zeb and Bex Kaylor, twins Wyatt and Miley Benfield, Wrigley Benfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, July 12 at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, 1420 N. Main St., China Grove; and at other times, the family will be at the home of son Reid Benfield.

Service: 11 a.m. Friday, July 13 at Landis Baptist Church. The Rev. Billy Honeycutt and the Rev. Eddie Graham will officiate. The body will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.
