KANNAPOLIS - Dorothy S. Caldwell, 74, of Landis, went to be with her Lord on Monday, April 1, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center-University Hospital in Charlotte. She had been in declining health but death was unexpected.
She was born Aug. 14, 1938, in Cabarrus County, a daughter of the late Harry and Annie Mae Stirewalt. She was a member of Truth Temple. She enjoyed country and southern gospel music and loved to dance. Her nickname was "Jitterbug."
Mrs. Caldwell worked in Weave Room 7 in Cannon Mills for 20 years and retired in 1995 from Cone Mill in Salisbury. She loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include two sons, Danny (Carolyn) Caldwell of Kannapolis and Kit Caldwell of Landis; one daughter, Debbie (Allen) McCall of Locust; one sister, Bessie Patterson of China Grove; and half-brother Jerry Tuck of Kannapolis. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Shayla, Logan, Amber, Justin and Jordan; along with two great-grandchildren, Kyndell and Ava Grace.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark Wayne Caldwell; and one brother, Gene Rabon Stirewalt.
Service and Visitation: Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 5 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Garland Faw. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Thursday, April 4 from 6-8 p.m. At other times, they will be at the residence.
