Guy L. Sloop

CHINA GROVE - Guy L. Sloop, age 77, passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, Apr. 12, 2013 at his home.

He was born Sept. 22, 1935 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Waldo J. Sloop and Bessie Morgan Sloop. Guy was one out of 14 children in the Sloop family.

Guy was a long-time employee with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, #6 Weave Room for 40 years until his retirement. He was an active member of Living Water Church of God, Kannapolis, where he had served as a pastor's council member, visitation committee, senior adult leader, and active in various phases of church activities. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1958 to 1960. Guy was a dedicated family man. He was married to his wife, Geraldine York Sloop, for nearly 55 years. He loved to sing and at one time was involved in a family trio. He was a generous person that really loved helping people. Guy also found time to do handyman projects and gardening.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his son, Dr. Greg Sloop of Concord; daughter, Gina S. McMasters of Salisbury; four brothers, Jacob Sloop of Rockwell, Franklin Sloop of Ca., Tommy Sloop of Nashville, and Jerry Sloop of Kannapolis; five sisters, Louise Goodman, Thelma Honeycutt, Margaret York, and Linda Menius, all of Kannapolis and Helen McInnis of Spartanburg, S.C.; six grandchildren, Hannah Burgess & husband, Adam, Cloe McMasters, Meghan Killian & husband, Cody, Nathan McMasters, Matthew Sloop, and Jaron McMasters; and an honorary grandson, Manuel Benitez of China Grove.

Visitation and Services: The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 14, 2013 at Kannapolis Church of God, Kannapolis, officiated by his son, Dr. Greg Sloop, Rev. Brian McMasters, Rev. Sam Crisp, and Rev. Wade Easom. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Apr. 15, 2013 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army and the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the church prior to the service.
