Herman Hanes Crews, 79, of Salisbury, passed on to Glory Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Novant Health-Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born July 15, 1938, in Forsyth County to the late Clarence and Argie Crews. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Herman attended Jefferson University in Miami, Fla. He was a fireman for 14 years in Greensboro, pilot for Burlington Industries, contractor for VanHoy Builders, and retired from North Carolina Department of Corrections. Mr. Crews is survived by his wife, Sandra Gayle Crews; five children, his son, James Scott Crews of Lexington, Rob Goodan of Lexington, Ky., Cendi Gross of Lexington, Ky., James and Ally Overstreet of Lexington, Ky.; grandson, Christopher Crews of Lexington, N.C.; and two brothers, Kenneth Crews of Escondido, Calif., and Ronald Crews of Kernersville. Visitation and Service: Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., on Wednesday, May 23, at Powles Staton Funeral Home of Rockwell. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m., on Wednesday, in the chapel of Powles Staton Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. James Cook. Interment with military graveside rites by Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the North Carolina National Guard will follow at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, NC 28144.
