Howard F. Baskins

KANNAPOLIS - Howard Franklin Baskins, 81, of Kannapolis, passed away Monday, May 18, 2009, at Tucker Hospice House.

Born Jan. 15, 1928, in Kannapolis, he was a son of the late James Arthur Baskins and Myrtle E. Hargett. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1945 to 1950. He retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 4 Weave Room with 40 years of service.

In his early years, he was a driver for Kannapolis Transit, delivered papers for the Kannapolis Daily Independent for 20 years and was manager for Fredrickson Motor Freight. After retirement, he was a security officer for Wackenhut in Kannapolis.

Mr. Baskins was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy White Baskins, on April 20, 2009.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Baskins of Concord; a son, Franky Baskins and wife Cheryl of Harrisburg; one sister, Laverne Baskins Phillips of Bradenton, Fla.; and two stepgrandchildren, Abby Barringer and Kerri Barringer.

Service: Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Daryl Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.

Memorials: Memorials in memory of Mr. Baskins may be sent to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
