SALISBURY - Jack Lucas Boyd, 88, of Salisbury passed away Saturday (Dec. 21, 2013) at the NC State Veterans Home.
Born Aug. 29, 1925, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Elsie Lucas Boyd and George Washington Boyd. He was educated in the Salisbury schools and graduated from Boyden High School. Mr. Boyd was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II.
Mr. Boyd was a dental lab technician for the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center before retiring. He was a former member of Enon Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church of Salisbury.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Smith Boyd, on Jan. 5, 1999; sisters Edna "Trixie" Kepley, Hilda B. Walker and Ramelle Trexler; and brother Edward Boyd.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Allen Jack Boyd (Yvette) of Folly Beach, S.C., and Cathy Boyd Hopkins (Mike) of Fayetteville; sister Joyce B. Agner of Salisbury; four grandsons, James L. Hopkins (Jessica), Michael R. Hopkins (Casey), Joshua A. Boyd and Justin M. Boyd; granddaughter Hailey L. Boyd; great-grandchildren Andrew Jones, Michael Bentley Hopkins, Kaydance Long, Kinsley Long and Kylee Hopkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m. Sunday at the Summersett Funeral Home.
Service: Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 22) at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Lance, minister of the First Baptist Church of Salisbury, officiating. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
