James Lee Burnette

SALISBURY - James Lee Burnette, 80, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast, Concord.

Born Oct. 16, 1932, in Spartanburg, S.C., he was the son of the late Louise Wall and Leroy Talmedge Burnette.

Mr. Burnette was educated at Boiling Springs High School and went on to work for Duke Power for 35 years as a construction supervisor until his retirement.

He loved golf, reading books and watching Western movies. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Peggy Burnette East; and grandson Jason Ramsey.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Claudette Miles Burnette of Salisbury; former wife Deanie Burnett; daughters Mary Allen (Harvey) of Woodruff, S.C., Donna Ramsey (Richard Rymer) of Spartanburg, S.C.; brother Roy Bernard Burnette (Phyllis) of Marietta, Ga.; stepchildren Robert Cummings of Atlanta, Ga., Sherry Coleman (Sam) of Salisbury, Kathy Tarlton (Gary) of China Grove; grandchild Cassandra Miller (Chris) Fayetteville; stepgrandchildren Shannon Perdue, Amy Coleman, James Coleman (Gabi), Mitchell McIntosh and Blake McIntosh; 10 special great-grandchildren; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Service: Visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 1-2 p.m. at Summersett Funeral Home. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in Summersett Memorial Chapel with Pastor Stanley "Shake" Smith officiating.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care, Kiser Hospice House, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144; and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
