James W. Coughenour

SALISBURY - Mr. James William Coughenour, 72, of Salisbury, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born Sept., 24, 1940, in Davie County, the son of the late Tom Coughenour and Hazel Coughenour of Woodleaf. He graduated from Woodleaf High School, was employed by Cone Mills for 31 years and retired from National Textiles, Inc., as an electrician.

James was a member of Canaan Baptist Church and the Faith, Hope and Love Sunday School Class. He owned and restored classic cars and enjoyed attending classic car shows.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Coughenour and Gary Coughenour.

Those left to cherish his memory are the love of his life, his wife, Sara Leazer Coughenour; daughter Sherry C. Kluttz (Sonny) of China Grove; son James (Jamie) William Coughenour, Jr. of Salisbury; stepdaughter Gaynell Leazer Lambert (Michael) of Salisbury; stepson Ricky Thomas Leazer (Tennia) of State Road; brother Paul Coughenour (Lynn) of Salisbury; brother Kenneth Coughenour (Judy) of Woodleaf; sister Mary Katherine; a special stepson, Christopher Johnson; a very special nephew, Marlin Coughenour; five step-grandchildren; 10 great-step-grandchildren; and last, but not least, a dedicated and faithful friend, Don Heglar.

Visitation: A visitation will be held Tuesday (Dec. 11) at Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, from 7-9 p.m.

Service: A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be on Wednesday (Dec. 12) at 11 a.m. at Canaan Baptist Church in Salisbury with the Rev. Bruce Graham and Don Heglar officiating. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at other times at the residence.

The family would like to thank everyone for their phone calls, cards, visits, food, and most of all, prayers. A very special thank you to Rowan County Hospice and Palliative Care and to a very dedicated and caring physician, Dr. Brinkley, and his loyal staff.
