CHINA GROVE - L.M. (Pete) Carter, 81, after declining health, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 28, 2012.
Born Oct. 12, 1930, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late George Isaac and Letha Mary Carter. Mr. Carter was a retired brick mason that was known by many for his excellent craftsmanship. L.M. was a faithful member of Landmark Church in Salisbury.
He loved his family and friends, enjoyed fishing at the coast and could not miss a Braves baseball game.
Having 16 siblings, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and four sisters.
L.M. is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Faye Yost Carter; sons Lynn (Gnat) Carter (Carmen), Jeff Carter (Kim), Barry Carter (Dawn), and Rick Upright, whom he loved as a son; grandchildren Marcie Barnhardt (Seth), Joey Carter (Emily), Isaac Carter (Carmen), Alex and Ronnie Clute; great-grandchildren Isabelle Barnhardt, Carson Barnhardt; and future granddaughter Bayley Carter. Mr. Carter is also survived by brothers Mayford Carter, Hoy Carter (Faye) and Bill Carter (Bobbie).
Service and Visitation: Visitation is Wednesday, May 30 from 7-9 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis. The funeral is Thursday, May 31 at 2 p.m. at Landmark Church, Salisbury, officiated by Pastor Mike Robinson. His body will lie in state 30 minutes prior at church. Burial follows at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
