ASHEVILLE - Margaret Whitener Goode, age 100, passed away on March 16, 2012, at the Givens Estate in Asheville.
She was born Oct. 27, 1911, in Timberville, Va., to Rev. and Mrs. Milton Whitener, who moved to Salisbury in 1929.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Kelly Goode, and two sisters, Catherine Whitener and Mary Whitener, also of Salisbury.
Margaret was a 1932 graduate of Catawba College and a descendant of Michael Brown, the builder and original owner of The Old Stone House in Rowan County.
She taught fifth grade in Greensboro, Charlotte and Durham for many years and was a member of First United Church of Christ in Salisbury.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Goode of Canton and Gregory Goode of Morehead City; three grandsons, Jeffrey and Vance of Orlando, Fla., Darren of Washington, D.C.; and a great-grandson, Aaron of Orlando, Fla.
Service: A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12 at City Memorial Park cemetery.
