MAMERS - SFC Mortemor James "Jim" Mahar, Ret. U.S. Army, 84, of Mamers, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center in Lillington.
He was born in Oconomowoc, Wisc., the son of the late Arthur James and Mary Degneau Mahar. Jim joined the U.S. Army shortly after graduating from high school. He made the U.S. Army a career, retiring after 20 years of service. During his time in the U.S. Army, he acquired a diverse set of skills including parachute maintenance with 82nd Airborne Division, radar repair in the Signal Corps and Personnel Sergeant.
After retiring from the military, he worked as an electrician with Celanese in Salisbury.
Jim's hobbies included fishing, walking and enjoying classical and easy listening music. He was a loving father and the finest husband in the world.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, Mitch Mahar.
Service: A Celebration of Life with full military honors will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at O'Quinn-Peebles Chapel with his brother-in-law, Lt. Col. Sam Seetin Ret. U.S. Army, officiating. The family will receive friends following service.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center, 185 Pine State St., Lillington, NC 27546.
Survivors include wife Rozena "Jake" Mahar of the home; son Robert Kenneth Mahar and wife Marcita of Mamers; daughter Pamela Ann Holt of Salisbury; grandchildren Miranda Fox, Ashley Mobley, Christopher Holt, Gabrielle and Mitch Mahar; and great-granddaughter Layla Holt.
