O J Walter Chandler, 89, of Salisbury passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at Liberty Lane Hospice. Born July 4, 1929 in Columbiana County, Ohio he was a son of the late Orvis James Chandler and Marie Venaman Chandler. He proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corp and the US Air Force. He was a technical writer with Boeing Air and a building contractor. Mr. Chandler was a long-time member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church, where he was active in Sunday school. O J had a passion for playing golf. He was an avid player and served as President of The GARS. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Steven Chandler on March 22, 2009; and his sister, Millicent. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 ½ years, Marilyn Louise Johnston Chandler; son, Gregory Chandler; daughter, Leslie Chandler and Jane Taylor, of the home; brother, Robert Chandler (Barbara); sister, Sally Wilkinson; grandchildren, Steven Chandler (Wendy), Jeremy Chandler, Benjamin Chandler, Jessica Chandler Gupton (Marco), Anna Chandler and Caitlin Chandler; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Chandler, Mason Chandler and Millicent Gupton. Visitation: The family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 12-1 p.m., at Milford Hills United Methodist Church. Service: A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m., in the church sanctuary with Rev. Kelly Shrader officiating. Burial will follow the service at the US National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
