Ralph G. Thomas Sr.

SALISBURY - Ralph Graham Thomas Sr., 82, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at the Glenn Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury.

He was born May 30, 1931, in Salisbury, the son of the late Myrtle Clemmer Thomas and Euite T. Thomas. Ralph was a graduate of Spencer High School and a Korean War veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

He retired as a freight train conductor for the Greenville Division of Norfolk Southern Railroad. Ralph attended Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings, Edith Lassiter Young, Mildred Kimble and Charles Thomas.

Those left to cherish his memory are wife Maxine Norris Thomas, who he married Dec. 24, 1949; sons Ralph Thomas Jr. (Trudy) of Palm Bay, Fla., Tom Thomas (Wanda) of Winston-Salem, Stuart Thomas (Stephanie) of Brown Summitt and Curt Thomas (Jana) of Salisbury; brothers Horace Thomas (Dot) and George Thomas (Ann), both of Salisbury; sister Tamera Honeycutt (Glenn) of Salisbury; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2300 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

Service: 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Gene Sides and Pastor Tom Thomas officiating. Norfolk-Southern railroad men will sit in a group. Burial will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.

Memorials: Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144 and Emmanuel Baptist Church.

His loving family, wife and sons, who were so dear to him, were constantly by his side day and night. He and his wife would have had their 64th wedding anniversary Dec. 24. The family would like to thank the staffs of Dr. David Caron and Dr. William Brinkley and the angels of the Hospice House for their excellent care for Mr. Thomas.
