SALISBURY - Rea L. Millspaugh, of Salisbury, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 4, 2012.
He was born in Upland, Ind., on Nov. 22, 1921, and was the last surviving child of six born to Herbert and Cora Briggs Millspaugh.
He was a decorated soldier serving in World War II, with the 18th Infantry, Big Red One, European Theater, suffering frostbite at the Battle of the Bulge. He returned at the end of the War to continue his service with Owens-Illinois, Forest Products Division, until retiring as Plant Manager at Salisbury in 1983 after 42 years, He was a manufacturing troubleshooter with O-I in Indiana, Ohio, Georgia, Wisconsin, and North Carolina.
Rea was married to his loving wife, Eloise Fox, for 65 years after a whirlwind, two-week romance and elopement. She preceded him in death on Christmas 2004. Death was the only thing to separate them and now bring them back together since they were both born again believers.
They were active supporters of The Inn and Echoing Spring Church, both of Salisbury. The Inn is run by Tom (son) and Gaylord (son) is the minister of Echoing Spring.
He is survived by his four sons, Steven (Cathy) of Atlanta, Gaylord (Mary) and Tom (Janet) of Salisbury and John (Dale Ellen) of Carmel, Ind. He leaves a legacy of 11 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by all as the patriarch of the family. He was a great father and wonderful grandparent.
Service: A memorial service will be held at The Inn to celebrate his wonderful life on April 21 at 12 p.m.
