Robert A. Lentz

BURLINGTON - Robert Alexander Lentz, 87, of Knox Court, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at Twin Lakes Nursing Center.

He was married to Betty Mills Lentz for 65 years and was born April 2, 1924, in Rowan County to the late Clyde Franklin and Mabel Freeze Lentz. Robert served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Bell Labs, Western Electric and AT&T after many years of service.

A member of Macedonia Lutheran Church, he served as Scoutmaster from 1952 to 1965 and continued to stay very active with the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Sue Lentz Dowd and husband M.W. Dowd, Jr. of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; a son, Dr. R. Preston Lentz and his wife, Marlene, of Greensboro; grandchildren Kirk Dowd and his wife, Kymberly, M.W. Dowd III and his wife, Tina, Cathryn Elizabeth Hewett and her husband, Dr. Allan Hewett, Jennifer Marie Szdlek and her husband, Kevin, Susan Paige Morse and her husband, Matt, Elizabeth Cathleen Ameen; a sister Rebecca Curlee of Georgia; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ann Lentz Ameen; and a sister, Rachel Mesimore.

Service and Visitation: The celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the Foley Chapel at Twin Lakes. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215; or Old North State Council, Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 29046, Greensboro, NC 27429.
