Roy L. Greene

SALISBURY - Mr. Roy L. Greene, 91, of Davidson, formerly of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Born Oct. 19, 1921, in Boone, he was the son of the late Lilly Dishman Greene and Robert W. Greene. Mr. Greene was a graduate of Bethel High School in Watauga County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Japan during that time.

He worked for Metropolitan Insurance Company for 27 years and went on to co-found Greene Insurance in 1977. He ended his insurance career with Greene Insurance.

Mr. Greene dedicated his time to mission work with Southern Baptist Mission, serving in Africa, South America, Alaska and Turkey. He also pastored a church in Black Wolf, W.Va., for several years and was involved in prison ministry in Salisbury. Mr. Greene was a member of Jackson Park Baptist Church in Kannapolis.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel Greer Greene, on Oct. 29, 1996; his daughter, Janet G. Cauble; brothers Willis, Lawrence and Wayne Greene; and sister Joyce Coffey.

Mr. Greene is survived by his wife, Betty P. Greene; son Jim Greene of Salisbury; sisters Lucille Smith of Salisbury, Rachel Townsend of Boone and Lois Hodges of Boone; stepchildren India Tilley, Reis Murphy; grandchildren Jimmy Greene and wife Donna, Elizabeth Greene Clark and husband Ken, Adam Greene of Salisbury, Lt. Commander Scott Cauble and wife Nancy of Cantania, Sicily, Jeff Cauble and wife Deatrice of Salisbury, Andy Cauble and wife Dana of Frankfurt, Germany; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Feb. 3 at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 4 at Faith Baptist Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow a Rowan Memorial Park.
