SALISBURY - Tiberio Alfonsi, 82, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at his residence.
Born July 28, 1931 in Italy, he was the son of the late Angelo and Maddalena Schiovoni Alfonsi.
Educated in Italy, he received a diploma from the Tailoring and Designing Academy in Rome and served as an apprentice with one of Rome's foremost Master Tailors.
He came to America in 1947 and worked as a custom tailor in Philadelphia. Over the years he worked for a number of large clothing companies as a designer and quality controller.
In 1976 he came to Salisbury to be the designer for US Industries. He also did private custom tailoring and consulting for various clothing firms.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed working in his yard, raising flowers and gardening.
He is survived by his wife Monica; daughter, Elizabeth Turney and son-in-law Paul of Springfield, Va.; son, Richard Alfonsi and daughter-in-law Letitia of Portola Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Isaac, Elias, and Aaron Turney and Peter, Rosemary and Vivian Alfonsi.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 12:30-1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. John Putnam and Rev. Joseph Gleixner. Entombment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
