Jay Wilbert Barnhardt

CHINA GROVE - Mr. Jay Wilbert Barnhardt, 81, of China Grove, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital.

Born May 2, 1930, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Ethel Freeze Barnhardt. A graduate of China Grove High School, he was a member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church.

Mr. Barnhardt was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Japan during the Korean War. His profession was as a construction superintendent for Barger and Graham Construction. His hobbies included farming and fishing.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 55 years, Ruth Cashion Barnhardt; sons Glenn Barnhardt (Kelly) of Purcellville, Va., Stephen Barnhardt (Rhonda) of Salisbury, David Barnhardt (Wendy) of Spencer; and daughter Carol Barnhardt (Rick Brown) of China Grove. Ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive him.

Service: A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at National Cemetery in Salisbury.
