Ray E. Smith

HIGH POINT - Ray E. Smith, 90, of High Point, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, at Beacon Place Hospice House in Greensboro.

Born Oct. 15, 1923, in Gaston County, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Iva Stroupe and Ross Smith.

Mr. Smith was a graduate of Stanley High School and attended Belmont Abbey College and Catawba College. He served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot during World War II.

After the war he worked as a sales manager and general manager for several motor companies. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Norma P. Smith, who passed June 26, 2011; and son Ray L. Smith.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Clayton J. Smith (Dawn) of Greensboro; daughter Carol Martin of Waynesville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements: Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, March 21 in the Summersett Memorial Chapel in Salisbury with Rev. Fred Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Park cemetery. The family will speak to friends and family following the committal.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina, P.O. Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450.
