'Josephine' H. Rowland

GOLD HILL - Mrs. Sadie "Josephine" Hunt Rowland, 75 of Gold Hill, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at her residence.

Mrs. Rowland was born Aug. 4, 1938, in Davidson County, daughter of the late John Thomas Hunt and Sallie Story Hunt.

Mrs. Rowland attended Davidson County schools and had previously worked as a seamstress at Granite Knitwear and Carolina Maid. She retired from Rags Incorporated.

Mrs. Rowland was a member of First Baptist Church of Rockwell.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rowland was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Irvin Rowland Jr., who passed away Nov. 18, 2008; sons Delmer I. Medlin Jr., and Robert Lee Rowland; brother Tommy Hunt; and granddaughter Pamela D. Scott.

Mrs. Rowland is survived by sons Larry Wayne Rowland of the home and Dale Carter of Gold Hill; daughters Della Sue McBride of Gold Hill, Jeanette Hewitt and husband Chuck of Salisbury, Sheila Goodnight of Salisbury; brothers Ellis W. Hunt and wife Debra of Lexington, Clyde L. Hunt and wife Evelyn of Davidson County; sisters Margaret Wall of Lexington, Judy Barrier and husband Eddie Ray of Linwood, Lorene Gobble of Mocksville; and 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandchild.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 at Powles Funeral Home.

Service: The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 2 at First Baptist Church of Rockwell at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. Matthew Laughter, pastor. Mrs. Rowland will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
