Donald R. Belk

MOUNT ULLA - Donald Ray Belk, 82, of Mount Ulla, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, April 2, 2014.

He was born in Rowan County on Nov. 21, 1931, to the late Eubert French Belk and Edna Waters Belk. He was a graduate of Mount Ulla High School and Coyne Electrical School. Mr. Belk joined his father in his electrical business, where they formed E.F. Belk & Son Inc. He enjoyed his work for more than 60 years.

He was a lifelong active member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully in many capacities.

Mr. Belk enjoyed going to Hatteras with friends fishing and also loved hunting rabbits with his friends. He was an avid Carolina basketball fan and sports fan.

Mr. Belk also served on the Board of Directors for Mooresville Savings Bank for more than 30 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha "Suzie" Belk Brawley.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patty Wiggins Belk; daughter Sandra Belk Woody; son Donald Ray Belk Jr. and wife Sheryl; grandchildren Brian Woody and wife Heather, Melissa Woody Shance and husband Chris, Donald "Chip" R. Belk III, Andrew Belk and wife Jessica, Samantha Belk; great-grandchildren Noah Woody, Abbey Woody, Kailyn Shance; brother Gerald W. Belk; and brother-in-law George Brawley Jr.

Arrangements: Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 6 at Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Swofford officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 620 Centenary Church Road, Mount Ulla, NC 28125; and/or Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
