Jack Williams, Jr.

SALISBURY - Matthew Jackson "Jack" Williams, Jr., 76, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Apr. 13, 2014.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Bonnie Goodman Williams, whom he married on Nov. 21, 1956, and his three daughters Loretta Williams Cloud (Bruce) of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Lynne Williams Hege (Len) of Lexington and Leah Williams Bartlett (Dean), of Silver Valley. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kimberly Sanders, Laura Sanders Ashby (Stephen), Heather Hege, Jacob Hege, Madison Waller Thomason (Ryan), Morgan Waller, and great-grandson Emmitt Thomason.

Jack was born Apr. 4, 1938 in Norcross, Ga., to the late Matthew Jackson Williams, Sr. and Hattie Stone Williams. They moved to Salisbury in 1950. He attended Boyden High School. At sixteen, he got a job with J & M Florist in Salisbury and worked there for 32 years. In 1986, he and daughter Lynne opened Jac-Lyn's Florist in Spencer. He worked there until the shop closed in 2011.

He had many interests, including bowling, golf, and gardening. He excelled at shooting skeet and trap and was a charter member of the Rowan County Wildlife Association. He was an avid fan of the Duke Blue Devils. He was a frequent member of the Richard's and Marlow's BBQ "Breakfast Clubs." He was a lifetime member of the International Lions Club. He was an active member of Maranatha Bible Church in Salisbury.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Williams Whitaker. He will be missed by all.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 16, 2014 at Maranatha Bible Church, 2320 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28147.

Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 17, 2014 at Maranatha Bible Church with Pastor Peter Newell officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rowan Memorial Park, 4125 Franklin Community Center Rd., Salisbury, NC 28144.
