Charles Deadwyler

SALISBURY - Mr. Charles Deadwyler, 73, of Salisbury, passed away in Johannesburg, South Africa on Sunday, Apr. 13, 2014.

Born Jan. 21, 1941 in Terre Haute, Ind., he was the son of the late Thelma Dilla and Charles Deadwyler, Sr.

Mr. Deadwyler was a graduate of Boyden High School, class of 1959 and of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, class of 1963. After college, he went to work at Innes St. Drug store and then Towne Pharmacy. He later purchased Towne Pharmacy and worked as the owner and operator from 1977 to 2008. He was a charter member of the breakfast Optimist Club, Kiwanis Club, Gideon's International and the Salvation Army board. Mr. Deadwyler was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Golden Rule Sunday school class. Charlie enjoyed beach trips with his family; he was a devoted Tarheel fan, and an original PSL owner with the Carolina Panthers.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mandy Deadwyler, whom he married Feb. 9, 1964; daughter, Jennifer Davis (Jeff) of Lexington; son, Craig Deadwyler of Florence, S.C.; brother, Billy Deadwyler (Iris) of Columbia Heights, Va.; sister, Connie Sheehan (John) of Salisbury; granddaughters, Lindsay and Sally Davis; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Services: Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 22, 2014 at Summersett Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Apr. 23, 2014 at First United Methodist Church of Salisbury with Rev. Steve Haines officiating. A private burial will be held for the family.
