Joan Ridenhour Scercy

SALISBURY - Joan Ridenhour Scercy, went to be with the Lord Thursday, evening, May 8, 2014, after several months of serious illness.

Joan was born to the late David Anthony Ridenhour and Lorena Poteat Ridenhour. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Leroy Scercy, April 5, 2011.

Joan joined Mt. Tabor Methodist Church, where she grew up with her family, but more recently attended Maupin Avenue Presbyterian Church.

For many years, she worked as a supervisor at North Carolina Finishing and Fieldcrest companies, where she retired and later did work at Rowan Memorial Hospital.

She looked forward to springtime, when in the past she had spent many hours in the yard working with her flowers. She was an exercise enthusiast, often walking three miles a day. Another pastime was playing the piano.

Joan is survived by two sons, James Slate Young (Jane) and David Eugene Young (Ivy); two sisters, Ann Ridenhour McCoy (Taft) and Delette Ridenhour Kluttz (Warren); two grandchildren, Kelly Young Johnson (Trevis) and John Young (Melissa); one great-grandchild, Kasidy Johnson; five nieces, Lisa McCoy Reid (Steve), Kathy Kluttz Cloer (David), Terri Kluttz Francis, Jill Kluttz Meade (Todd), Patti Kluttz Watson (Jim); one nephew, Mark McCoy (Candy).

Special thanks go out from the family to Bruce Lanier and Juanita Beck, who were faithfully by Joan's bedside helping her during her illness.

Arrangements: A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by Pastor Randy Foster, minister of Maupin Presbyterian Church. There will be no formal visitation, but the family appreciates the love and support of the many people who visited Joan during her illness.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers may be made to Maupin Avenue Presbyterian Church, 100 Maupin Ave., Salisbury NC, 28144.

Joan accepted Jesus as her Savior. She was so thankful that He died for our sins, and it was the desire of her heart for each person to know and accept His truth into his or her heart and life.
