D'Ette McDaniel Mize

SALISBURY - Mrs. D'Ette McDaniel Mize, 91, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at her home.

Born Sept. 25, 1922, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Clyde McDaniel and Emma Hood McDaniel. She was educated in Salisbury City schools and was a graduate in 1939 of Boyden High School. She worked and retired from Fiber Industries.

D'Ette was an active member of Park Avenue Methodist Church for many years where she sang in the choir. She later attended Gold Hill Wesleyan Church where her grandson Mark Loman pastored.

She and her husband Henry were actively involved with the VFW Post 3006 where she held various offices and was recognized in 1995 as member of the year. She was also involved with the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342. Both she and her husband enjoyed volunteering at the Hefner VA Medical Center.

She was the devoted wife of Henry C. Mize, who she married Feb. 13, 1943. Also left to cherish her memory are daughter Gail Reynolds of Salisbury; grandsons Mark Loman and wife Crystal and Paul Reynolds all of Salisbury; and great-granddaughters Hope and Carrie Loman. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.

D'Ette was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Kay Loman.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday (May 14) 7-8:30 p.m. at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: The funeral service is Thursday (May 15) at 2 p.m. at Summersett Memorial Chapel. Her grandson, Mark Loman, and Pastor Richard Loman of Mt Airy will officiate. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County and especially D'Ette's nurse Susan Haigler and social worker LuAnn Reed.
