Patricia 'Pat' Hillard

SALISBURY - Mrs. Patricia "Pat" C. Hillard, 63, of Salisbury, passed away May 30, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast in Concord.

Born July 28, 1950, in Catawissa, Pa., Mrs. Hillard was the daughter of the late Ralph (Bill) and Iva Bittenbender Cope.

She was a 1968 graduate of Central Columbia High School, South Centre Township, Pa., and graduated from Columbia International University, Columbia, S.C.

She retired from the Employment Security Commission of NC after 32 years of service where she served as Assistant Manager of the Salisbury office, Manager of the Lexington office and Manager of the Job Link Center in Charlotte.

Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking and most of all her grandchildren.

She was an active member of Landmark Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible studies and participated in women's activities. Pat dedicated her life to Christian service at an early age. She lived every aspect of her life so that she exemplified her dedication to the cause of Christ. She possessed a talent for teaching and taught Sunday School for 50 years and as late as last Sunday.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry Cope and Leon "Corky" Cope; and sisters Claris Swank and Sue Ann Knorr.

Survivors include her husband, Benny Lynn Hillard, who she married Sept. 20,1973; daughter Katie Zino and husband Galeal of Salisbury; grandchildren Ben, Bailey, Brooks and Bryce Zino of Salisbury; brothers Ralph Cope (Sherryl), John Cope (Carol), Randy Cope (Cathy) of Lime Ridge, Pa.; sisters Mary Catherine Cain (Merritt)of Lime Ridge, Pa., Karen Hopkins (Ralph) of Mt. Vernon, Maine, Judy Lee of Apopka, Fla; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday (June 2) at Summersett Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday (June 3) at Landmark Church conducted by Pastor Mike Robinson. Burial will follow in Rowan Memorial Park.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Landmark Church, 1910 Mooresville Road, Salisbury, NC 28147.
