George Armond Wiles

KANNAPOLIS - George Armond Wiles, 82, beloved husband, brother, father, grand and great-grand father, passed away May 31, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 15, 1932 to the late Bernadine Marshall Wiles and Edgar Leonard Wiles.

George was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired after 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. After retirement he was the owner/operator of Centerview Cafe in Kannapolis until 2013. In 1950 he was the Novice Golden Glove Boxing champion in Hickory and Concord and in 1956 he was the Navy's 7th Fleet boxing champion.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was his brother Larry E. Wiles.

Also surviving are nieces Gretchen Sink and Lisa Holmes; nine grandchildren, Chad Gibson, Jacob (Ashley) Moore, Dustin (Leslie) Shue, Shelby (Kevin) Austin, Kendall (Amber) Shue, Meagan (Kevin) Young, Amber Argabright and Brady Argabright and Travis (Sarah) Linker and eight great-grandchildren.
